I can use both formats. I am using Ritek GO4's and have burn't at 4X and also tried Datawrite CMC dye at both 4 and 8X. these are both -R. Do +R play fine? some are avi films converted to VOB with Nero. Any help would be greatly appreciated0

I still have the problem with + R. and I even tried another burner. Either I have got a fault machine or this model doesn't like playing DVD-/+R's burn't from AVI. Do these play for anyone else with this machine?0

Beerbelly... it's more likely in that case to be the way it is burnt than the disc format then... assuming "usual"
disks work OK.
Maybe download DVDSanta and give that a try... I use it to convert AVI's

BeerBelly,
I have the new Aldi Tevion now and am hitting a similar problem to you, though in my case I do think it is both media and format related.
Certainly most of my -R's (even top quality Fuji dye) discs are jumping or locking up. However +R's seem to be fine including one's burnt from AVI.
Maybe this is something that can easily be overcome by changing the booktype (as mentioned earlier) to DVD-ROM.. I am just going to try this and will let you know how I go.0 -
Just created an image of the -R and popped it onto a +RW to test.... it was fine... so looks like the unit is not happy with -R discs.
I don't have any more -R discs to test with but maybe setting the -R book type to DVD-ROM would have overcome this problem0 -
Erased that +RW and popped a load of MP3's on it... they played OK too.0

I took the Medion Back and they allowed me to test another one there. same problem! It must be a charteristic, they don't like Dvd converted from Avi's. I bought the Tevion from Aldi and it plays everything fine. It does'nt have a 2 year G'tee and it costs a 10 extra but I am now happy. The sound is also better! Thanks for your help Dfarry0

Glad you are sorted now mate...
Interestingly I have found today that my DVD-R's work ok now...very strange... I hadn't used the unit for a day and it had no battery (or other power) I wonder if somehow the Antiskip Buffer (or whatever) got screwed up...anyway...all seems fine with the DVD's which is the main thing.
I have tried running Video input from my Xbox to... but the scan rate seems to be wrong as I got a screen full of scan lines.... need to play around with that a bit more.0 -
Thanxs DFarry,by the way you can make the Tevion Multi-region. follow this other MSE link for details
