has anyone managed to get one of these compaq pcs from currys. the webiste is perpetually out of stock.

We brought the compaq 1609 from currys instore but it was advertise online but i cant find it now. This was at the end of december. Its very good compared to our old computer.
We just went in store and said well have that computer but without the monitor.

It actually has 512MB of RAM. 64MB of that is dedicated to the graphics, leaving 448 for everything else. If they never do anything requiring 3D graphics you could go into the bios and reduce the amount of shared video memory to 32MB or even 16MB, which would free up more RAM for everything else.

and only 145gig hard drive on system settings

Hard drive manufacturers count a GB as 1,000,000,000 Bytes, whereas Windows counts a Gigabyte as 1,073,741,824 bytes (I.E. 1024x1024x1024). That's why a '160GB' disk actually has only 145GB. It's standard, and it's the fault of the hard drive manufacturers.

I went to my local store. After i saw it on the website and went in and got one
product code on reciept 0000224372 @ £289.99 i have just checked on currys website and still not showing . try customer services or go into local store and ask
