not currently available when checkign stock - on initial glance looks ok but no monitor spect so I suspect it will be 14"0 -
Thanks gizmos
The advert in The Times (well, someone's got to buy it) shows a monitor (14" TFT) and keyboard. The website shows PC and monitor only (no keyboard mentioned).
I'm looking for 3Ghz, DVDwriter, 512Mb and 2 x 160GB at £400 (I'm a skinflint), so this spec is nearly there. Not too certain about the Sempron processor though.0 -
As you're a skinflint, Don't you fancy building one yourself?
Then you'll have something that's more upgradeable than that Compaq as and when you need to.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
You want to aim for 1gig of ram these days, if you want the computer to stay running quickly once you've installed everything you need. 14" really is a very small monitor too.
Why do you need such a large amount of HD space too?
If you want something very specific like that you might be better off having a go at building it yourself or finding a mate who knows about computers to do it.0 -

I've looked at building one myself, but the total component prices usually match or exceed the price of a PC off the shelf .......unless you know better0 -

I want to run XP and Linux on separate drives with enough space for video files.
My current PC was purchased with 10GB of HD and 64 MB of RAM (a long time ago), it now has 170GB and 512MB, but the clock speed is slllllooooooowwww. In fact it's so slow I'm too embarrassed to mention it on an open forum
I could spend a couple of £100 on a new motherboard and CPU, but it's still running the original power supply, video card, 17" CRT monitor etc. So it's time to to start again, but at the right price.0 -
Tesco are doing an excellent deal on their IQON set ups,
17" flat Screen Phillips Monitor
AMD ATHLON 3200+ 64 bit processor
1gig RAM
160 GB HD
DVD /CD REWriter
3 in one printer /scanner/copier/inks
keyboard, mouse and speakers
2 Yrs Free Service and warranty
Windows XP Home Edition
£598 i had mine 3 weeks ago , surfs like a dream
But i do know they were still doing them in the Longton Tesco but not on line i'm afraid.
If you need to know anything else i'll try to help !0 -
If you’re after a 3ghz CPU then the Sempron 3000+ is not for you as it only clocks at 1.8ghz.
Also if you were interested in any gaming you would need to purchase an addition graphics card.
Have you thought about partitioning your hard drive and installing your Linux/Windows setup?
If you are thinking of building your own I would recommend Microdirect.co.uk as they have never let me down unlike Scan and Ebuyer.
If not then perhaps Dell may be the way to go as you can get some good deals around that price.0 -

A quick google suggests that your right about the clock speed. Drat. Back to the drawing board. I wonder what the 3000+ means?
I've watched the Dell website closely waiting for more mis-prices, but they only appear when my back is turned
I'll have a look at the Microdirect website, thanks.0
