Senior Railcard Renewal Query

My Senior Railcard is due for renewal on 6 December and I have received an online renewal form. However, I am not due to travel by rail again until mid January and don't want to waste a month of the card. There is no option to change the start date online, so should I just let it expire and apply again in January at a rail station?
