Sorry if this is in the wrong section but this one best suited my vent
I purchased an item online from a vendor for £476.19 on Friday but when i checked my online banking yesterday the payment shows up twice. The first payment shows up with the vendors name against the Maestro transaction on my card but the second amount of £476.19 is still showing Maestro Card Auth. This has left me with very little funds in that account.
I called Yorkshire banks telephone banking as soon as i saw it and they say it happens from time to time and that its called a "shadow payment" and that it could take upto 10 days to appear back in my account which leaves me with problems for other payments i have coming out of the account, i.e. one tomorrow will take me overdrawn.
I called the vendor and their records show that they have definetly only taken the payment once.
The women i spoke to at Yorkshire Bank was polite and took the time to explain the situation but said they cannot manually put this payment back in and its an automatic process.
Does anyone have any knowledge of situations like this and what i can do about it if its not back in my a/c on Monday morning ??
Apart from having no cash (transferring from my savings a/c will take a couple of days) where do i stand when a DD comes out on Monday taking me into a negative balance and therefore i'll incur yet more unlawful charges ??
TIA.

you would have thought if it is a 'shadow payment' as you call it and not a real one then your balance should only be altered by real transactions and not this.
did the Yorkshire bank lady say it is an actual deduction from your balance and that you would go overdrawn?Baby Milk Action is a non-profit organisation which aims to save lives and to end the avoidable suffering caused by inappropriate infant feeding.0 -
This happens sometimes on one of our accounts (not with Yorkshire Bank). The cleared balance shows as less than it really is, but the payment never actually comes out IYSWIM.0
