Mince gone off, can I still take it back?

bought 2 packs of pork mince yesterday afternoon for making meatballs stew for a dinner party.
On opening the pack, there was a funny sour-ish smell. I've made a mistake thinking it'd ok once all other ingredients were added. The smell had sort of disappeared once soysauce and wine were in, but I made a couple of trial meatballs before cooking it all, and they were obviously off on tasting it. I had no choice but to abandoned the meat ball plan.
So, I now have the meat already opened and blended with some ingredients. Can I still take it back?

If you still have the packaging, just take that back and explain what was wrong with the meat. I have done this before when I have purchased bad chicken from M&S and ropey beef from Sainsburys.Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0

I bought some meat from Tesco, froze it and then after defrosting it it smelt rank but there was nothing I coiuld do about it as by that time it was way past the sell by date.0

They may not refund you if you have used it already, but if you phone them and explain they might take pity...be polite though. We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0

cybervic take it back and demand your money back tomorrow, or rather today and also ask to speak to the manager and ask for reimbursement for petrol, clearly they have inconvenienced you so stand up for yourself and dont let them scare you off. the mixing of ingredients doesnt make one bit of difference, just say i trusted your brand product so much i chucked it right in there and then noticed it smelled funny, infact i would ask for the other ingredients which you added the mince to for free. I once saw a cs assistant do a similar kind of refund, this should work for you. Do let us know how you got on.
for anyone thinking im being too harsh, i am not-its about time we stood up to shops that make so much profit and especially in this case as their product is not up to scratch.:eek:FunkyFeet:eek:Elite 5:2 #190 -
ive had chicken off before but rang the customer helpline(normally on the packet) explianed that i wont be going back to the shop for a further week and tell them about what happened. in my instaces they have sent out good will gestures rounding it up to the nearest 5 or £10 in vouchers.
hope this will help you then you wont have ot go taking it back to the store where in my exoerience they give you a refund and nothing for your troubles.

If it's Tescos ask for a product report to be done...they will look into why the product was faulty and often send you vouchers through the post as well as refunding you the money. I have done this a couple of times with food I've had thats not been up to scratch and they have always been very helpful and apologetic.[STRIKE]CC1: £354.35 / £354.35[/STRIKE]

I recently took a smelly chicken back to Tesco after a couple of days, I didn't know where the smell was coming from, it was off due to a small tear in the plastic, I got a refund no problem after I asked her if she wanted to have a sniff! If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in0

Definitely take it back!
I've had to do it loads of time with mince where its gone brown before the sell by date and always got my money back.0 -
Took it back this morning and a nice young chap refunded me the money without any quibble. I have to say I was really frightened before I went in because I've seen the chubby old lady working in CS counter rolling eyes at people who ask double difference refund, luckily she wasn't there.
I still don't understand why the freshest packs of pork were off, the pork was put on shelf the same day I opened it. Anyway, Big Thanks for the encouragement, I'd probably be too frightened to make a scene and not taken it back if I didn't have any advice from here.0
