Car No-Claims Discount Query

Hi, I'm asking what NCD I would have as I took out a policy on saturday morning and had an accident on saturday afternoon. I know things will have changed but at the time I had 1 windscreen claim (declared) and had assumed that I'd have 6 years no claims at commencement. What is the case now I've had a claim, even though I've got protected NCD? I honestly don't know so any pointers are appreciated!0

As you have ncd protection, your ncd is unaffected by this latest claim.
You keep asking for advice, and getting it - why not speak to your insurer regarding this?0 -

You've got 5 years. You had 5 when this policy year (07-08) started, you have not been claim-free this policy year so you still have 5 years.0 -
Hi Quentin, thanks for your time and advice. My current insurers are Zurich and I'm renewing with them but each time I speak to them I get a different story - I've got 5 years NCD, I've got 6 years NCD as it was protected even though I've had an accident and so forth. Also, their call-centre staff are difficult at times to understand. If I tell them I have had an accident and they give me 6 years NCD I'm concerned that this will come back and bite me should I ever need to make a further claim, in case it's incorrect.0

You get a year's No Claim Discount for each year that you are claim free (the clue is in the name).
Raskazz is right (as always) because you've made a claim this year, so won't get any discount for this year, but you keep what you had before because it's protected.
So you have 5 yrs ncd. Might not make much difference anyway as 5yrs is max for most companies

If the information that you have posted is correct then your NCD is 100%, categorically, 5 years (assuming either you or the third party or both of you will be claiming for this latest accident through your insurer).0 -
Check in the policy - often 5 years is the maximum they take into account when considering the number of claim free years for NCD/NCD Protection. (Even if you have gone more without making a claim)0

Hi Quentin and Raskazz, I have spoken to Zurich and they have said they will be sending proof of 6 years no claims on 1 Dec 08. They are completely aware of my recent accident and claim and they say that it has no impact on NCD as it was protected. I too would have thought no-claims meant, well, a year without any claims but obviously not to Zurich. Thanks for your advice!0

Well as long as it's in writing then there are no problems. How generous of them!0 -
Hi again, doesn't make sense does it! I've been totally up front with them and as I skidded on ice and went into someone, it's my fault, they know all of this. I used Zurich's online chat facility and have a print-out of the conversation with their advisor's name on it and it shows that they are aware of my accident so hopefully that'll be me bulletproof. Regardless of that, luckily no-one was injured.0
