HELP..Threats to take me to court.

  • Thanks folks, I will send the letters off tomorrow, recorded delivery.

My income is £175 a week and my expenditure is £179 a week. No savings. Have to rely on banks overdraft every month.

I suppose if they take me to court they would lose and they would have to pick up the costs.

I have dutifully paid my creditors £1 a month for a year, one is Northern Rock which will reassess my account in feb, 2009, so off we will go again then!!. The CAB in lincoln was very good and arranged for the £1 gesture.

Its a nightmare when you live alone and have aprogressive disability to contend with as well.

with expenditure bigger than income this is going to continue to be an issue. Have you looked at the up your income boards? and tried posting your SOA for people to have a look at.
  • There is nothing I can cut back on. The expense recently which is crippling me is vet bills for two dogs I have. I cannot afford insurance.

I am with Npower and have managed (thanks to Martin) to get onto the social tariff. So I will get £125 of my electricity bill in jan and £30 off every quarter.

    Whats SOA?.

I have housing benefit, Incapacity benefit, Disability Living allowance and a small NHS pension.

Check out the PDSA, they have clinics to treat pets for free for people on benefits.

An SOA is a statement of affairs, it details all your income and outgoings. The link to it's here - http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html

Have you spoken to a benefits advisor to check you're getting all you're entitled to? You might be able to get some income support, but it'd depend on the level of DLA and how big your pension is.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
  • Thanks. The PDSA has helped me in the past. They will pay vet bills over £40 so I have forms ready now for future. Trouble is I have to pay up first and then they pay me, which is understandable but not much help at the time if I havent got it in the first place.

I dont think I can get income support as I am retired and the only income is my small private pension.
  • Ive looked at that link, doesnt really help me as I have a motability car which I dont have to pay for a lot of things as it comes out of my DLA. Also working out my expenditure weekly like CAB have figures are different.
    This is my income weekly.
    Pension £89.25
    Incapacity benefit £84.50
    DLA (care) £22.00

    Weekly Total: 175.75
    My expenditure:
    Rent 43.73
    Council Tax 17.50
    Water 5.50
    Electricity 8.75
    Housekeeping/Food 26.00
    TV license 2.68
    Phone/mobile 10.00
    pet care/vet bills 25.00
    Sky 5.50
    Disability care expenditure 22.00

    Weekly expenditure: 179.66
  • I ca't really offer much help but didn't want to read and run!Have you had a lokk on the old style board, you might just save a few pennies on your food budget, not much but at least you would be living within your means instead of going over that little bit each week, it soons mounts up.

Aren't you entitled to any housing or council tax benefit?
