David, can you just explain this
Exactly. You're simply sending an email to yourself so it sits in your inbox, on their servers far far away. Whenever you need it it'll, in theory, be right where you left it.
Sorry if this sounds stupid, but why am I sending an email to myself, and what do I do with it oce it arrives in my inbox?

You're sending it to yourself so you have a copy of the files if ever you computer dies. When the computer's fixed or replaced you log back into your inbox and simply save / download the attachment from the email you sent yourself and you've now got the documents back on your new / fixed computer.

You've also got access to these documents whereever you are in the world. Assuming you've got internet access ;)

Once it arrives in your inbox you could simply move it to a new folder called 'My Documents backups' (below the folders already there of inbox, sent etc) or something else equally as intuitive...

I'm trying to back up some folders to a DVD+R 1-16x

The disc is installed, I've right click on the folder, send to - Untiltitled D:

It says "Windows Does Not Support This Type CR-R Format, Please try another disc"

    What does that mean?

  • I'm afraid Windows XP doesn't contain built-in support for burning DVDs itself. You can burn data to CDs quite easily, using the method you tried above - you can watch a video of this here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/279157

To burn DVDs you'll need to use a program like Roxio, Nero or maybe one which was pre-installed on your computer. While looking for a decent free alternative this seems to fit the bill: http://www.download.com/BurnAware-Free/3000-2646_4-10878661.html?cdlPid=10978419
BurnAware Free is a free CD, DVD, Blu-ray Disc burning software. It is ideal for users with basic disc burning needs as backup, creating data, audio, video discs and burning disc images. Free, easy to set up and maintain, it enables you to save your files to disc quickly and provides a more flexible interface to help you complete your burning tasks much faster.
