I know that if you have you broadband, you can get a MAC code to switch it from Company A to Company B, but...
...if you've got (say) Orange Home Max, how do you go about switching FROM them for your line rental to (say) TalkTalk? Do you need a MAC code equivalent for line rental? Or should the new provider just deal with everything?

No code is required.
Your new supplier may say they will only provide service if you have a BT Line they can take over cheaply.0
