help stuck with my bank account

Hi there
I opened up a bank account when I started living/working in the UK 2 years ago. I now live and work in a different country (but still work for a UK based company). When I left the UK I gave my new permanent address in ireland (eire) to the bank and the inland revenue and they now send all correspondance to this address.
I have recently starting looking into switching my back account to a different bank in the UK but I have been told by the places that I have contacted that I need to be a UK resident and I am pushed towards limited expat accounts.
So for the moment it seems like I am stuck with my bank.
Can anybody clarify what the situation is here given that I do currently hold a UK bank account, and an address in eire was good enough for them ?
thanks

The only potential way I can think of is if you can convince the bank(s) that you are only temporarily living abroad, and that your intention is to return within xx months. May be the HR department of your employer can assist / has some other helpful ideas?0
