Complaint to insurance provider

Has this ever happened to anyone and can they offer any advice on how to complain or who to complain to??

I received some direct mail from Churchill Nov last year addressed to our address but made out to (dont laugh) Ms Manky Sweatbag !!! i laughed at it and disposed of it at the time.

1 year on i've had 3 further pieces of direct mail addressed to the same ridiculous name - 1 is from Churchill, 1 is from Direct Line & 1 is from Privilege Insurance. All delivered within a couple of days of each other. As i know now they're all owned by RBS.

I've sent off letters of complaint to the 1st two and after receiving post from Privelege a couple of days later i'm now livid and want to take this further.

Any advice much appreciated!

Thanks:mad:

  • Either someone put in a false name for quotes or someone did it for you.
Asking them to remove the name from their database should be sufficient - if you get any more letters send them back - not known at this address.

Looks like you have irritated a neighbour or someone.

Aye, its more than likely someone you know that you have had a run in with.

Having said that my father once had a problem with Kwik Fit (serves him right for going to them, they are dodgy as!!) with a letter replying to a complaint, addressed to:

    Mr A XXXXX
    1 - Very Pushy
    203 XXXXXX Road
    Town
    AB1 1AB

Needless to say this lead to another letter of complaint!
  • Whenever you get a quote from a website, there is an option to tick a box to say that you are happy to receive mailings from sister companies too. Whoever you upset has obviously ticked this box and you will get mailings from whoever RBS deal with. If they got a home quote from Direct Line or Churchill, you will end up getting mailings from anyone they deal with which could include:

    Green Flag
    Tesco
    Sainsburys (I think)
    Asda
Any other company they give the database to.

If they put your age at over 50, expect mail from:

    Saga
    RIAS
    Age Concern

    You have 2 choices here:

    1. Move house
    2. Send everything back marked "return to sender - not known at this address".

Option 1 is obviously out of the question, but for option 2, I recommend you get some labels printed.

Sending complaints to the companies will do nothing - it's not their fault someone is having a joke at your expense. If you want to be polite about it, you could write to the Data Protection Officer at RBS Head Office and advise them that someone has done this to you and unfortunately, it has got through their database spam filter (all companies filter databases for known spam names such as Mr R Sole and manually check the filtered details). They will probably take more notice of that than you running around complaining to everyone.

  • oscar some of those you listed have no RBS affiliation

the esaist thing to do is phone each of our brands directly and ask to be removed from the mailling list, it wont stop anything thats already been printed coming but nothing new will be printed as direct mail, so after 3-6 months you will get nothing new
