Probably this is correct for some countries, but not for all - as based on my experience with cash card.King_Of_Fools wrote:...All other machines will be on the Visa and/or Mastercard network - these do not have balance checking facilities and will let you take out up to £250 (or so) every day even if there is no money in your account.0 -
I have now arranged with his tutor that he has a small buffer amount in his own bank account in Lombok. The tutor says that he will try and ensure that this stays in the account and is used for emergency only (after which he can top it up) but we will see!!0

Why not arrange an overdraft facility with Nationwide, say £20 or £50, so as to cover the worst possibility that has happened so far, yet protect yourself against any large withdrawal. This should remove the problem provided "your" student doesnt get to hear about it.

I have the same situation (well my mother in law in Jamaicas rather than my boyfriend in Indonesia) and also got a surprise when the A/c went 1.57 overdrawn (due to a misunderstanding on the ex rate rather than intentionally) and was charged by NW. I went to my bank and explained they had told me that the A/c could not go overdrawn - they said that it could with foreign transactions but refunded the payment as goodwill and I set up a 100 overdraft.grumbler wrote:AFAIK overedraft is not available with a cash card.I think....0 -
