Real Player - Its A Different One Now (?)

I wanted to listen to a radio show on radio 2 which I missed. I used to have real-player but since my computer has been updated ie a new CPU and bigger memory, the person updating had not fed it back on I now discover, So when I went to 'listen again' - on the radio 2 website (which I have done trouble free for ages now - though not terribly recently) I now see that it is a new version of real-player which you must download which you have to enter all your credit card details into and you will get charged 8.50 per month, if you don't cancel after your 14 days trial, which of course most people will forget to.... how come its all changed now? and why can't I listen free like before? (yes maybe I can for 14 day trial - then remember to cancel but its surely not the only option?) don't the bbc already charge us via the tv licence anyway? bah humbug!!!!
