Yes they did credit gross interest and then take the tax away to leave me with the net interest but I omitted to mention this as it had no relevance to the story.

Apologies for not making it clear.

    Just to update the thread....

I've closed my ICICI account and moved the cash elsewhere.

  • Posted this elswhere, but I think it might be more appropriate here:

I opened an ICICI Hisave account way back in June. Opening was fine. Everything seemed ok at first but the first regular direct debit I'd organised went horribly wrong - wrong amounts a number of times within the same week and a nightmare to get the money refunded. Eventually had to get my normal bank to refund under the indemnity. I decided then to close the account and received no response initially. Finally after a deluge of emails received a confirmation that they had closed the acount. However, the following week they initiated a direct debit for a crazy amount and took the money! Contacted my normal bank to refund which they did again! This has been going on since September and just happened again this morning. From my experience, there is no problem opening account, but once that's in place the nightmare begins. I would urge anyone to think very carefully about using this clearly amatuerish organisation.

Glad I'm not the only one Roselli :)

I was lucky, in that it all worked out fine in the end. However, I think that was my doing rather than ICICI's.

My experience really worried me! I felt it was like giving cash to a pyromaniac!

    Kind Regards,

I must admit your experience has concerned me. I have not no problems so far but am getting a little worried. I had planned to move most of the money out when the next ISA year begins but not sure if I should wait not...
  • I was fed up with their awful customer service too and closed my account last October. I sent an email to close the account and requested a transfer of my credit balance to my linkced c/a.

After four weeks nothing happened, so I transferred the money out myself and 2 further weeks later, found that they had sent me the money again. They have not requested the money back (only £50) so I think I'll keep it until/if they ask for it back.

I had exactly the same experience last night (just one of the issues I expereinced in 8 phone calls over 1hr 45 mins - didnt post this one as it got too complicated) with 6441.60 tansferring from First direct account to my ICICI account - still no idea whether I am 6k better off, or what, but as soon as I get that money back in my cheque account I'll be putting it somewhere I trust and can get it back easier!

    MajorR,

I'm waiting for April and will be putting some of it in the best ISA i can find. The rest probably will go into a regular savings account as Matin advises (money fountain I think he calls it).

At present it's in a lloyds tsb online saver. Not a great interest rate (3.37% NET with the bonus) but easy to move around from there because my regular bank account is with Lloyds. Transfers between saving and current accounts are immediate.

Seems like a lot of people are having probems with the ICICI account... I've had mine for a few months now, used the DD 4-5 times and haven't had a problem yet.... I have withdrawn all I had in the account to stash into some stocks within my ISA before the tax year ends, tomorrow those funds are due to clear in my account :) Fingers crossed now to get my money in time!
