I suppose its better than Windows disabling restore when going into safe mode... I mean who trusts MS anyway..lol...

Its just that if you go into safe mode restore is disabled anyway.. so thats why there aint much point in turning it off then going into safe mode.

    Edit:I edited previous post.

Sorry Inters but I think you'll find you're wrong on this one. You cannot create a System Restore point in Safe Mode but you can select previous ones for recovery - in fact, that's the first option you get on entering safe mode.

The subtle but important distinction is that by disabling System Restore in the normal Windows environment it actually deletes all previously save restore points.

So if you've detected malware in a System Restore file the best thing to do is disable System Restore in normal mode (effectively deleting the infected file) before going into Safe Mode for a scan.

  • Running System Restore in Safe Mode to Recover a Non-booting System
If you have System Restore enabled on your system, you may still run into problems with software or bad drivers. If your Windows XP installation will not boot normally, how do you get to your restore points? You can go to the most recent restore point by using the “last known good configuration (your most recent settings that worked)” option in the Windows advanced options menu, but if that does not fix your problem, use Safe Mode. Note that you cannot create restore points in safe mode; only load them. (See Tutor Tip System Restore for proper usage.)

    See here.
