My sister works in a night club and on her nights off gets in free.
Some nights her or the other employees go in on their nights off but recently when the have been getting there it turns out that the club is short staffed. The manager will ask them to work but when they say no as it is their night off he refuses them entry to the club.
Can he get away with this?
(aby yes thi i money saving becaue then they have to go somewhere else and pay

I'd say that unless it's written into her job contract that free entry on nights off is allowed (which I doubt) then the owner can choose who he lets in and who he doesn't. So yes he can get away with this....
But that doesn't make it right! Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0 -
yea refuse entry is pretty standard. a lot of clubs n bars have a rule that they cant socialise in the place so that they dont 'embarass the place'.0

Thank guys -
The issue that I have is that he allows staff in when they are fully staffed. He only says no when he is short staffed and people refuse to work. He actually bans them and won't even allow them in if they pay. So he is basically trying to force people to work by preventing them from going out on their blooming nights out. Very cheeky!Debts: Gym £[strike]465.75[/strike] Student account [strike]£1039.88[/strike] Overdraft [strike]£129.00[/strike] Credit Card [strike]£2772.22[/strike] Loan [strike]£6222.01 [/strike]

he is the manager. he says who can and cant go in.
surely there are better places to go anyway!? why go in your place of work, knowing he will just ask you to work?!0 -
I've figured a way around it anyway
apparently he doesn't have a managers licence which i know is illegal if he is running a club

I'm not sure what you mean - do you intend to report him, get the club shut down, and lose your sister her job?Gone ... or have I?0 -
No the assistant manager has a licence but hasnt been promoted cause he i still there. So the place will go on just fine.Debts: Gym £[strike]465.75[/strike] Student account [strike]£1039.88[/strike] Overdraft [strike]£129.00[/strike] Credit Card [strike]£2772.22[/strike] Loan [strike]£6222.01 [/strike]

You don't actually know that. I would be very careful doing something so extreme (and so petty), things like that have a habit of backfiring on you.Gone ... or have I?0 -

if she doesn't like the job/perks....quit and go somewhere else...I'm not aware of anything in "workplace" law that says whats being done is illegal....
mind you , you would think in this day and age if the offer of more hours/money is on the table....you would now and again take advantage of it...and possibly help out your overstretched workmates....worth a feather in your cap next time you want something from the management....
unfortunately the OP sounds like the familiar case of an employe has told the story and a "friend" or relative chips in with the typical "you're a mug for taking that from your employer....I wouldn't let them do that to me...I think you're being hassled/ripped off/exploited at work....if I were you , I'd quit"....
funny how advice is readily available when its not your job.....as I said...if they don't like the job or conditions....quit....and why should it be the "only issue you have"....you dont even work there....stop making bullets for someone else to fire.
Finally....if someone is a "known" (by the punters I mean) as someone who works in the club....how bad does it look if the place is shortstaffed, the customer is suffering and your sister (we've yet to hear if its her complaint or you're just interfering as stated above) is swanning around partying when she could have been working...tell her to get a job in a supermarket, where staff are regularly recognised by customers and even when doing their own shopping get accosted by customers...perhaps thats what the boss is trying to avoid....but then we don't know as your sister isn't here to fill in the missing details.I'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j
Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:0
