How do I set up a euro bank account as a UK based person?

Seems like a good idea, both to stash some money away in euros if the rate is continually getting worse, and also for easy access on our holiday nexy year.

I have one wth Banco Santander (no owner of Abbey). They have a branch on the Haymarket in London. Just remember that you now have to advise HMRC that you have the account.

I tried this a few years ago with Barclays as they have branches in Spain. They told me I could have a Euro account but that I could only withdrawal in pounds or if abroad it would go through the Euro/Pound/Euro conversion. This seemed to completely negate the purpose of having an account in the currency you want to spend.
