    pompeii
I would make them definates with a trip along the Amalfo Drive after Pompeii, then up to see the vistas at Ravello.
I'd also add Salzburg to your list.

They have the equivalents and also the real thing! If you want to stay cheaply and centrally in major cities, Youth Hostels can often be the way to go.
  • munich is a fantastic place as well. loads of history there - dachau is nearby ,
also berlin and vienna are about 5 hrs away by train.

If you're thinking of booking houses then it'll probably be a minimum of a week in each place in summer so that's six destinations tops. You could invest in a tent for more flexibility or buy a cheap caravan and sell it again on your return...or keep using it! Why not ask each member of the family to choose one destination and plan the tour round their choices? Don't try to do too much, you need lazing about time too..or at least your DH will if he's a teacher. Have fun..that's the important bit!

I have used a company called Interhome for this. Most of their properties are for a week at a time, but they do offer a few three-day stays.

prague is beautiful and more importantly quite small, so easy to do the lot in a couple of days. some nice pimped up churchs (do I need planning permission to gold plate my house?) amazing architecture and views.

the bay of naples is truly stunning, although I would have thought it's a hell of a drive, but plenty to do whilst there.

    What about vienna?

    "jealous" doesn't do this justice.

hope you have a great time.
Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?
