Grrrrrrrrr. We put a £20 deposit down on an XBOX 360 ages ago, probably September/October times, can't remember exactly. When they came out the OH went down to the store to collect it and they had given it to someone else!!! They told OH that he had already collected it. 'No, I haven't' he said, 'Yes, you have' they said. Stalemate. Of course, he didn't take the receipt with him at the time as he went in on the spur of the moment and came home fuming. Seems that someone else has been in and claimed our XBOX 360! Seeing as you could only collect it with your name and the receipt we couldn't work out how this happened. So we have lost £20 and all they could do at the store was shrug their shoulders!

Phoned Head Office and complained and was told that they would sort it out. They took over a week to come back to us and then all they said was 'You need your receipt'. Der! Now the dopey OH has gone and lost it although I am convinced it is somewhere in the house.

Apart from finding the receipt which I will clearly have to look for, can anyone suggest anything we can do? I'm not even sure what finding the receipt is going to prove - it's just a receipt and they are claiming that the OH has already been in with it and picked up his Xbox.

Thanks

How did you pay the £20? If it was by credit/debit card, could the shop then do an audit trail to see what the payment was made against? (always assuming they can be bothered to do so!)

Did it say your name or address on the receipt as if it did surely they can check on the computer for your details then you could just go into the store with some ID to prove who you are and theat they have made a mistake
  • The same thing happened to my frieNd, she put the deposit down then went to collect in and was told that the deposit did not guarantee a console! I have never heard anything so silly, what is the point of the guarantee then? She returned to work and told a male co-worker what she had been told and he called them up and demanded to know why they would not have a console reserved as she has paid £20, eventually she picked the console up but it seems to me that the whole deposit, reservation idea what a total farse.

One Rule, Always Pay On Your Credit Card Even If You Have Cash!, Then You Can Bounce The Transaction Back Up To 6 Months.

  • Thanks for the replies guys. I honestly can't remember if our name and address was on the receipt because I wasn't paying attention (I was bored by then) and the OH did the transaction. In actual fact I can't even remember being there although he insists I was! He says, he THINKS on the visa debit card so we should be able to trace it back.

I'm not so much bothered about not getting the console but its the principal and the fact that they have stung £20 out of us and someone may well have walked off without having paid their deposit. Makes me wonder if it was an 'insider' thing - he didn't go rushing down there the day they came out and they would have had a list of those who hadn't been down there I would have thought. Maybe a little oik working there tipped off mates who couldn't get on the list? Pure speculation of course. Anyway, I am going to turn the house upside down to find that damn receipt!

    Thanks again

It shows how well the pre-order system doesn't work as someone else has managed to get your allocation which sounds a bit dodgy and may be a friend of someone that works their.

Never been a big fan of game myself for the simple fact that most people that work their have not got a clue on the stuff their selling similar in Currys as you want the correct information on stuff your going to buy

Good luck in sorting it out

In the Game store I work at, we required the customer to have their receipt, their reward card, and TWO forms of I.D (one of which HAD to be photo I.D, such as a passport). Without those, we wouldn't let them have their Xbox. This ensured that the people who hadn't pre-ordered didn't get a machine.
We had all our pre-order customers come and collect their machines before 9am (we opened at 7am) and everyone had their documents.
In our store, everyone who pre-ordered with us got a system.

In your case, it looks as if someone has been a bit lax in checking who was collecting what. This may have been down to an inexperienced member of staff who didn't know the correct policy regarding pre-orders.
I hope it gets sorted soon.
    Boo!
