Camcorder recommendations please

Can anyone please help?

Ideally I would like to spend less than £200, and am after the following spec:

- uses SD cards or is HDD
- takes good quality pics in addition to video
- small size
- as much optical zoom as possible

Not asking for much I know! ;-)

Any recommendation would be much appreciated

Yes I've seen this one, but the reviews generally say that the still picture quality is not too good.

Am I expecting too much in wanting good photos from a camcorder? ie do these kind of camcorders not exist yet?

Anyway, I'd like to hear any opinions of the above cam, plus any other suggestions if anyone has any. Thanks

Camcorders record moving images at modest resolutions, for them to record a great still image is asking too much, sorry but it's a fact. :undecided

Fair enough. I'm not technically minded enough to know about these kinds of things, so I appreciate the info.

In that case, any further info on what spec camcorder I should look out for would be appreciated.

I've had a look at camcorders that fit your listed requirements and can only come up with the Samsung VP-MX10 Flash Memory camcorder for £170 at Argos. Seems to have quite good reviews, something for you to think about.

  • Hi , we purchased the Panasonic sdr s7 some 3 weeks ago from Jessops via topcashback for £142 and we're really happy with it . We havent taken any still pictures with it tho because we have a decent digital camera. I read on a different forum about optical zoom and someone said that it really is impossible to control the picture shake with high optical zooms ,the s7 has a 10x optical zoom which is more than enough for us. It really is a tiny camcorder , we bought a small camera case to carry it in .

Does anyone else have any recommendations? Or know of any good review sites for camcorders?
