X-Box 360 - Picture Quality?

Santa bought me a 360 and Project Gotham Racing (lucky boy I am).
Connecting this through my CRT TV (sony) I get a very faint shadow created (almost like a second image) at each side of the image created. I am also finding the picture quite dark (despite adjusting the brightness and contrast)
I have checked that the AV connector is set to normal TV and not HD.
I have also checked this on my HD ready projector and whilst this shadow disappears, the picture is still very dark.
Does anyone know if this is a fault or just a feature of the game.

Hi Topbloke,
You were lucky to get an xbox 360 from Santa! Just checked my son's (Santa was good to him too!).
No sign of any shadow or ghosting and the graphics are quite bright. The AV cable (on the premium pack) has 6 connectors -white, red and yellow for normal def TV and red, green and blue for HD TV. If you are using the red white and yellow ones it should be fine.
Have you;
tried another game on it
tried connecting the xbox to a different AV channel on your telly.
If you are using the Scart adapter to connect to your telly have you;
definitely got the phono plugs connected to the adapter OK
tried connecting the phono plugs directly to the sockets on your telly?
Apologies if you have already checked the above (probably have).

Mine is plugged through the Hi Def component cable to a LCD TV and have not noticed any darkness or blurring in the game but on 2 occassions I have noticed when turning on the 360 the screen went a bit blurry for a couple of seconds but not had this problem since as it mayhave been a loose connector0

Avoid this one http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4525318.stm
The developers admit they did not test it on ordinary TVs.
