ideas needed to use up baby milk powder....

hello, need to call upon your wealth of knowledge. my ds2 (13 weeks) cannot tolerate the hungary baby milk and i have got a full tub just sitting in my cupboard doing nothing. In my new mse way i begrudge throwing it out as i now see that as money down the drain!
really need some ideas (and/or recipe ideas) to use it up, any ideas gratefully recieved,

  • Hi

If the tin in still sealed, then you could sell it on Ebay.

I personally wouldnt use it in anything, buts thats just me. They are made solely for babies with all the added nutrients that non-breast fed babies need.

  • It will taste disgusting, have you ever tried baby milk? Keep it for a bit if it is open, it will probably say on the tin how long once opened and try your son again in a few weeks - their digestions change quickly at this age. Also he may tolerate it in small amounts mixed with food as you start to gain momentum in weaning.
  • I agree baby milk tastes awful.... Years ago i visited a friends friend and she decided in her wisdom that since she had run out of milk she would make us a coffee with baby milk.... I have never revisited her house again for a coffee ;)

Hungry baby milk made my ds sick. It was ok mixed though - one scoop of hungry baby milk and the rest his normal formula. He never went up through the different grades of formula either, he stayed on the basic one until he went onto cows milk.
  • Could i make baby rice pudding, porridge and stuff and freeze ready 4 weaning?? does it freeze ok??

  • Check the use by date on the tin. If the baby is 13 weeks then it's only 3 months until you start weaning, will keep until then so you don't need to bother with freezing? You can make up a small amount and use it for mixing the weaning stuff just be cautious introducing it, as you would any other weaning food in case it causes upset.
If it won't keep then I should think it's fine to make it up as stated on the tin and then use to cook babyfood with.

  • Do you have a friend who could make use of it? I knew loads of mums at baby groups that might have used it.
I used to use baby milk on his cereals when weaning.
You could try him on it again in a while - you might find in a couple of months he is fine with it. We use hungry baby milk with 19 month old as it keeps him fuller than cows milk, you might find he changes.

You could wait until weaning and use if for baby cereal , porridge , weatabix , baby rice , your baby may tolerate it more when he is older , sell it on ebay , free cycle it , bin the powder and keep the tin to store other things in.. just a few ideas
