Hi, my first ever post!! We were looking at the offer in Comet today too. Looks good on the face of it at £599 but only come with 1 year guarantee. They sell 3 years for £179.99 which boosts up the price. Just been looking for a better deal and Argos are selling a 42” Panasonic for £639.98 Model no. 42PX80B + they have a special offer 2 which states “Free 3 year warranty leaflet posted within 7 days of product delivery when you buy this TV. Offer ends 16th January 2009”. So this would seem a better offer. Plus you can get 1.5% through Topcashback.
Saying that I’ve also e-mailed our local Panasonic dealer in Chesterfield to see if they can beat the Comet offer as some shops offer a free 5 year guarantee. If I’m spending that much money would want the reassurance if something goes wrong. Panasonic get a good write-up in the Which report so reckon this is the brand we would go for. If anyone spots a better deal please let me know!

The PX80 is not such a good TV as the PZ8b though as its not 1080p and has a lower contrast ratio on the screen, think there may be a couple of other differences too. Long and short of it Comet's deal is much better.
If there any value to getting extra guarantee when surely to be fit for purpose under SOGA the TV should be expected to last around 5 years??

Yes, i agree. I saw one with this ratio and compared it to the one mentioned in original post and it was far superior.

This obviously bugged hubby and he just spoken to his manager and Laskys is a sister company of Comet but Comet won't match their prices as all refurbished goods are passed from Comet to Laskys to be sold on their website, so you might not actually get a brand new unit.
Either way, still a good deal for a plasma tv!
absolute rubbish. its *illegal* to sell refurbished goods without clearly stating they are refurbished.
i bought a blu ray player from laskys and it was brand new. as did hundreds of other people the other week when they were on offer.0 -
IF you are concious of electricity charges, I am sure I have read somewhere that this tele uses something like 412 watts. Its the only thing that puts me off as since my other half retired, the television (sports) seems to be on all day! Sally0

Hmm, have to say when you start looking it is amazing how confusing this 1080 lark is... Have a read here as it's simple to understand and informative!
As our old CRT is about to give-up, reading through the above and talking notes and now looking around. Some good offers out there, will they get better? Who knows.....
I think it's a case of picking a budget, doing some homework and looking around, but I have round the £600-£650 to spend... :T (so her indoors says)

Don't forget John Lewis should do a price match and give a long (5yr?) guarantee, try Sheffield to see what they say.ac's lovechild0
