Hi all is anyone else's internet running sh-it I am so sick of it...I have a netgear router which is well old...4 years old but I do look after my things, although I am soon to be the owner of a brand new black n range BT home hub, so that may well sort out the problem, I should be getting 6mbs BB but can only get 2.3mbs at the moment don't know why but thats all I am getting...my DS says his xbox 360 is having trouble connecting with his official xbox 360 wireless dongle, which has been great until lately...anything wireless wont connect...although a friend of mine who is wit talktalk said he got a letter off them saying they would be doing some work on the exchange but it shouldn't make any difference to his BB (he hasn't had any for a week) so I wonder if its that...
I am on whitby exchange...
:D

    2.3 is about average for upto 8 adsl, assuming that is the download speed, and not sync. What are the sync speeds on the router? Have you rebooted it?
    I am normally on 4.5 mbps and sometimes have got 6mbps...so this lower speed is abit nuts really I can't understand why its gone down...
    I reboot the router every day as I don't leave it on...but what is a sync speed...where would I find that...:confused:
    my router is a netgear at the mo...:D
    sync is disabled...

    sync=downstream connection speed, found in router settings, http://192.168.0.1

    Is the router plugged into a master socket, or extension? Which ISP, BT?
    sorry was away from laptop,

    Is the router plugged into a master socket, or extension?
    Master socket with microfilter.
    Which ISP?
    BT.
    Downstream = 3776
    Upstream = 448

    The most you are going to get at that sync rate is 3Mb/s.

    If you have an extension, and a modern master socket, you could try removing the front plate of the socket, and trying the test socket inside
    I may well do this as I have been on better speeds than this and can't work out why its running this bad at the moment.

    very annoying...

    I'm on the Sky 16 Mb package and when it was installed just over a year ago I was getting just over 6. It's slowly dropped and I'm now lucky to get 4. I believe that the problem is with BT, not my router. Perhaps it's time to go back to cable.

    I'm not sure BT will look at it for you as your speeds are still in acceptable tolerances.

    Are the speeds you quote consistent throughout the day as it could be that your contention to the exchange is higher, causing the lower speeds.

    How do you get on at the BT Speedtest site?

    Despite all the hi-tech wizardry that makes the Internet possible... I sometimes wonder if there's a vital component at the heart of every exchange that is actually made of tin cans, string, a few coathangers and some sticky-backed plastic.

    My Internet connection was fine - continually operating at a fraction under 8MB/s... until I tried migrating to another ISP. Engineers have been dispatched to the exchange and to my house with no clue as to why I can't connect. I reckon the sticky-backed plastic must've lost it's stickiness. It really is the only possible explanation :sad:

    I know what you mean mine was running fine until I asked bt for a mac code...say no more really ...they pull the plug, so you internet runs terrible, then you stay with them like I am cos they have given me a really good deal, but then they don't tell the guy down at the exchange that your staying and to stick the plug back in...and now I keep ringing them but to no avail...one guy told me that because I was off from them that there was nothing they could do...I said excuse me but I am not off so to speak I have just started a new 12 months contract, so hit the switch and turn my internet back on there's a good chap...anyway it is running so bad that my sons 360 wont stay online now, so annoying I wish I hadn't asked to leave now. bloody bt.
