i did Ewido when i was in safe mode but will re-try this again now, i now also have spybot and am installing AVG and i will get CCleaner for good measure too

now that i have restarted the computer (and its still there) i searched the register editor again and found adtools,inc and all i found inside the folder was my felix the cat program (the cat walks around the screen and is also a screensaver) which starts up with my computer do you think that this may be the problem??

DEFINITELY.

Follow the removal instructions I posted earlier but substitute IceAge for Felix the Cat - that's your culprit.

It was Felix! It has now been deleted from everything and the scans are clear (and it did not come back this time!)

Now I know my comments are very late on this and hopefully all is OK now BUT I had a look at the last HJT log you posted (post no.7) and it has at least 3 entries that need specific removal (none of which have been highlighted so far in this thread). That log shows you have (or had then) the CoolWebSearch hijacker infection. A particularly nasty piece of work.

So, just to make sure, please could you run a fresh HJT log and post the results here. If CWS is still present (or, ineeed, anything else) I can let you know how to fix it.

When you reply please describe any other problems at the moment with this PC.
