upon leaving the room my mum comes in the reception and i completely loose it... luckily for them the doors are made of plastic and not glass... but they really should bolt tables down... i was asked my name so i replyed... " what does it matter... im just a fuking number to the nhs!!!" i think if i hadnt then left the police would hav been called!!! good job i didnt need to bus it home today as dad was able to pick me up after appointment!! i know the way i reacted was not the best way but i think they got the point... so here is the question for thoose of you who have mental health problems... what help do you get given????

  • sounds like you need a social worker (not as scarey as it sounds).
tell them that your main carer is planning to move away and ou are scared about what will happen.
You may be able to get direct payments for some social care (like someone to come and check on you a couple of times a week, take you out shopping or something like that).
sounds like your CPN isn't being very constructive, ask your psychiatrist about what schemes are available (they sometimes have support workers who will come out and work with you to do stuff you find tough). alternatively somewhere like mind may have facilities you can use to keep you in touch with the world and support you through this big transition.

social worker should be able to advice what services are available (DM used to work in a drop in centre for folk with mental health probs and it was a life lie for some).

Also would you absolutly not consider going with them? sometimes a change of scene can change how we look at things (or it might be too scary?).

Let us know how you get on
  • how would i go about getting a social worker?

my psyciatrist (sp) is based in manchester and nt sure if he is even a psychiatrist lol he just my "specialist" and if im honest a bin man could offer more support than him lol!!!

seams that i dont fit certain areas that i need too... in child serivces tourettes is a mental health conditon but not in adult services:confused:

as for going to germany... me an my dad dont get on very well as we are waaaay 2 alike and many times i have almost gone 4 him!

plus i have a long term boyfriend... i only see him on the weekend as he works away and if i went to germany would hardly see him at all he is the only one who keeps me going if im honest!

will contatc MIND as you suggested see what they say lol... wouldnt suprise me if i didnt fit their catogories tho but wont know unless i try

    thnx 4 the reply :D

Irrespective of the classification of the Tourettes, you also have "... ocd, depression, panic attacks, eating disoder and other things".

Those on their own are all recognised as mental health disorders, so you would qualify for a Mental Health Social Worker. Is your CPN based with a Joint Agency team? If they are, then ask the CPN about access to a Social Worker - actually, tell your CPN that you need more support than you're getting and request a review of your assessment.

ooo i never knew they where classed as that as the profesionals seem to focus on the fact that t.s isnt mental health

i have an appointment soon with the CPN . had to miss the last 1 as my arranged transport didnt turn up and by time i had got the bus etc would have been at least an hour late!!!!

i will make sure i write every bity of info down from here... i always say i wont budge untill something is sorted but never usualy stick to the plan... my plan for the next appointment dont move u till something is done if nothing is done wait for police to remove me lol! cos i wont b budgeing voluntarily.

seams there is not much support where i am sadly and if there is i've not been told of it :(

    thanks again :D

  • either ask your CPN or just ring your local council and ask to speak to someone in adult services.
Say that you think you need an assessment of your social care needs and explain why. I would say that as your main carer is leaving you believe you are at risk of self neglect and that you would like to get a care plan in place before your dad leaves.

CPN stands for community psychiatric nurse, so you most certainly are classed as having mental health problems, so you should not worry about not ticking the right boxes. Your CPN and social services are normally members of community mental health teams. The idea is that they should all work together (normally with your CPN as the first point of call). remember CPN's and social workers can do home visits if you feel you need it.

    good luck!

I don't want to put a dampener on things, but I've found the system totally useless. None of the social workers I've spoken to have been interested in my mental health problems (apart from 'if you take bipolar medication your ME will get better'). I once took an overdose deliberately to land myself in hospital, assuming that they wouldn't be able to discharge me without a plan for proper support. I was wrong.

I don't want to put you off asking for help, but I don't want to get your hopes up either.

Although I do agree about the CPN. When I had one, both of her visits were to my home, I always thought that was standard.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
