Dodgy S on laptop keyboard.

My S key is not working properly. If I hit it on the top or right side it works, if I hit it on the bottom or the left side it doesn't. I thought it might be sticky but it does not seem to be the case, just that one side of the key has stopped working. I did try to look to see if something is stuck underneath but I cannot see and the key does not come off like they do on my Advent so I cannot get it off and I am worried I might break it if I force it.

I've got an ACER Aspire 5920 and it is around 2 months old. Is there anything I can do to sort it out please. It is very frustrating and time consuming.

There's only one real solution - have the keyboard replaced under warranty. Any other type of "fix" is not likely to last.

Yes, the s, e and x keys do tend to wear out quickly :rotfl:

Seriously, isn't your machine under guarantee still? The keyboards usually detach with one or 2 small catches so you might be able to have then seller send you a replacement.
  • Well, I just fixed it this minute and thought I would come back to let you know. The frame that the key 'sits' on was half hanging off so not slotting back into place once I pressed it. I guess something must have got stuck under it or something. I've given it a little duct and clean but it's just taken me 10 minutes to get it back into place and a little eek moment when I saw it had fallen off!!
  • I knew a girl once who had trouble with her "w" .... it was a scream when she ordered a lager and lime.

Sorry I don't have a remedy to the "s" on your keyboard.

Please elaborate, I can't seem to figure out the punchline?

I was just going to say that. My tab key did the same and it was a bit of errant rice from a curry I'd had which had somehow managed to get under the key.

LOL, I have to confess as it is new I've been careful not to eat around (that'll soon wear off!!). On my advent I thought I'd give the keys a hoover.... and one of the keys can off and went up the hoover. So beware if this has not happened to you already. This is how I knew the keys came off, only I could not get them off this one. Nothing a good tug could not fix, I figured it was broken already so I had nothing to loose!!

I am strill trying to get the punchline on that larger and lime joke. I am guessing that the poster made a typo and she had a problem with her l's and pronounced them as w as then she'd be ordering a wager and wime. And that would be kind of funny.
