Is a cast iron bench worth anything scrap wise these days?

I tool some scrap in today and light iron (which your bench will be classed as) is currently £160 / tonne (or 16p per kilo). Its probably worth between £5 and £10.

  • Unless its copper or brass then it will be practically worthless.

But £10 isn't practically worthless. this is MSE after all. Providing you don't use loads of petrol taking it their, then its got to be worthless. You wouldn't knowingly throw £10 in the bin would you?

  • There's a huge queue at my local scrappie. It depends on how I value my time. Do I spend an hour sitting in my car just to get a couple of quid for an old tin bath or do I take it to the tip which is much closer and only takes me 5 minutes?

Edited to mention... I took 5 massive radiators to the scrappie the other day, they weighed a lot more than an old bath and I got £3 for them.

Maybe you are going to the wrong scrappy. I took 2 washing machines a cooker and 2 small rads and got £44 today.

  • paint it gold and put it into a 'cash for gold' freepost envelope
As is a tale, so is life: not how long it is, but how good it is, is what matters.
  • My old bath (1960's vintage) is currently sitting in the back garden, smashed into pieces.

Is it worth my while to sell it for scrap? How much is it worth?
    its in good condion 1960's
