Sony Walkman and iPlayer files... How???

I bought one of these new Walkmans (S series) that ares advertised as supporting files transferred from the BBC's iPlayer. Can some please tell me how to get iPlayer video files onto the damn thing. I have been trying unsuccessfully for 2 days now and starting to loose the will to live.

I have tried Dragging and dropping using Windows explorer but the file doesn't play (get the message of unsupported format on the player). Drag and drop using "Content transfer" gives an error stating that content transfer doesn't support DRM files. WMPlayer 11 gives the error that I haven't the right to sync file to portable device and Media Manager doesn't even show the DRMed file at all. The file I have been trying to transfer is the latest TopGear episode. What am I doing wrong??????????????????????????????????????????
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

  • Hey mate

    Its very easy to do.

First, you cant use the content transfer software - stupid I know.

Download the files you want from iplayer in the mobile device formart.

Go into my computer and open up your walkman and choose explore so you can see the different folders.

Open up the VIDEO folder then drag and drop the iplayer files into that folder - jobs a good 'un.

    Hope this helps.

http://www.sony.co.uk/hub/walkman/block/7 check out this link and you should find a little vid clip showing you what to do if you have any trouble.

As Fitz says it's really easy providing you use the media players link under the programme on the BBC i Player rather than the standard link.

This does n't work for me I get the message:-
"Cannot play. Please connect to compliant software and update license information."
On the Sony screen when I try to play the TV programme.
Also if I open the file and play the downloaded TV prog. on WMP11 then try to sync it to the device the sync fails and the message for the fail is:-
"The contact provider prohibits this action. Go to the content providers online store to get new media usage rights"
I have checked in WMP11 and "Download usage rights automatically when I play or synch a file" is checked in the Privacy options as it should be.
I did not install the Media Manager for Walkman software that came with it as it is not used for these transfers, did those that have got it going install this?
Many thanks for any ideas. I am not too familiar with WMP11 or DRM! :o
  • I've managed it before but having problems too now. My walkman just freezes when I try to play an iplayer download.
