Swiftcover Car Insurance - beware the value of their downloaded documents

seriously if you deal with a company who who keeping popping up with this type of problem, then what do you expect?
if your happy to go to a company who dont want to talk over the phone and make you use a premium rate number, make you print the documents for them just to save a few quid then you can have no complaints when they are rubbish.
oh and have a check on their cancellation policy0 -
The only way I have found to use your 'Certificate of Motor Insurance' from SwiftCover with no problems is to print it on 'letter head quality' paper with a colour laser printer. This works for the DVLA and the Post Office.
If you are asked by anyone if you printed it yourself, just say "no, this was sent to me by Swiftcover after I requested it from them."
I only found this out by being refused using my own inkjet printed certificate.
The certificate I received from Swiftcover was identical apart from the fact it was on thicker letter quality paper and was colour laser printed.
If you can't use a colour laser printer at work you can get your local 'Prontaprint' to do it for 25p - It's not illegal to re-print the PDF that you own.
I print my own every year with no problems. Alternatively ask Swiftcover for a copy, they will provide one free of charge.
The Post Office and the DVLA could check your insurance details on their askMID database, but the DVLA told me the database is not 100% accurate (what's the point of the database then?!).
Only in the UK! :cool:0 -
I'm with Swiftcover and got my tax disc in person with no problems. It was printed on a good quality printer but had clearly arrived as an email attachment. Surely I'm not the only person who has succeeded?
I printed my certificate, presented it at the post office and was robbed of £405  for a years road tax.
No problem with the certificate, just the cost for my "gas guzzler"
PS we have good quality paper and a Canon Pixma printer, it's not laser but it does a really good print.

When i recently took out swift cover insurance it had a acovering letter which it said to print and provide with the certificate which i did to tax and also when i was stopped by police (brake light out!), no probs with either.
Also if swift cover doesnt show on police databases, as another poster suggested, why does it allow to tax online as they use the same search?0 -

they dont send you the documents and they prefer you not to call but deal with them via email to keep costs down which they can then pass on to the customer.
Swift cover for the last two years have been by far the cheapest insurer and im for one happy to pay £100 less and print my own docs out which i have used to buy my tax 4 times (6 months) at the post office without any problems,Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
just to add swift cover is actually owned by AXA so they are by no means a small insurance companyEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

Nothing new to add, but I have also not experienced a problem with swiftcover, like others have suggested if you can do your tax online, saves so much time and hassle!
When I first starting using swiftcover I stupidly (completely my fault) didn't realise they only contacted you via e-mail and after not checking my e-mail for about 3 weeks realised they needed proof of my no claims within 7 days. I had obviously way gone over this but I phoned them, which was very easy to do, they answered straight no waiting in queues, and said no problem I could just fax proof of no claims across to them. Considering this was entirely my fault I found them very helpful and obliging!0 -
perhaps the quality of paper might help, most insurance certificates i've had tend to be slightly better quality than, usual copy paper.
i also used swiftcover this year, it too them ages to acknowledge my no claims certificate, despit faxing it twice and emailing twice, hope i dont have to make a claim, not very impressed so far
After getting our renewal through for our cars from current insurer (1 car doubled in price, the other by a massive 500% ) we've moved one over to Swiftcover as they were the cheapest for same cover.
Sent a scanned copy of the NCD proof on Sunday 3rd Jan, got confirmation of receipt of it first thing Monday 4th Jan :j . So far so good. Now just need to shop around for the other policy that runs out end of this week as swiftcover aren't very cheap on that one0 -
My sentiments exactly.
I always try to do my little bit to kill off the local post office.
It's only any use if you are over the age of 65.
That is such a immature and selfish comment to make. I hope that if you are fortunate enough to have parents still alive they don't read your comments.
I hope you live long enough not to need a post office
Of course the obvious benefits of having a local PO is that those 65+ year olds are kept of "your" road because they stay local :T:T:TIf youcan lie down at night knowing in your heart that you just made someone’s day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day!!0 -
Also had no problem with Swiftcover who were the cheapest for my then 19 year old daughter. Printer is Epson DX4800 and bog standard paper. Post office accepted this twice now.
Went online the other day to add driver to policy but it wouldn't work as we were using the wrong option. Called them on a geographical number (used saynoto0870) and they were really helpful and told us which option to use and to call back for assistance if there was a problem.0
