Cancelled Barclaycard and PPI Protection!

Not a great day for me financially! Been getting upsetting news about my money matters. Anyway I received a statement from a Barclaycard I thought I had cancelled via a telephone call months ago and the statement shows the latest transaction for card protection. How in the world is this possible when the card is supposed to be cancelled?
I can not remember if Barclaycard sent me a letter to confirm if my account is cancelled with them but I never used the card again after that call. Am I missing something?
