BHS false reductions

Hi. My first thread here :)
I have just bought a dining table and chairs from BHS.
We had shopped around a lot and finally decided on the table and written the prices down. We then went in the next weekend on their 20% off event. BHS had put the prices up so that when they were "reduced" they were the exact same price. Is this allowed?
Thanks!

    Hello greathat

    Welcome to the MSE site.

I'll move your thread to 'The (Consumer) Vent' board.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

    Regards

If they were 20% of then they should have been on sale in a least one store in England and Wales for 28 days at the original price.

However if you think that BHS are guilty of false advertising I would put in a complaint to Trading Standards https://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk . You can do so online.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

Some items in their sale are more expensive than before the sale

I have noticed this in lots of stores, the price gets put up in december in anticipation of everyone getting excited about pre-christmas sales when it is more expensive than it was before lol.
  • It's a way of getting people into the store to shop for Christmas!

That is no longer the case. The law only requires a reasonable length of time.

My advice, and that if Trading Standards is to completely ignore any "reduced" claims of any form and look only at the price it is being sold for.

Ahhh, BHS with their big signs reading "20% off of EVERYTHING," and then it turns out it's not.

We had this yesterday with their made up ham rolls. "Oh it doesn't apply to food," the stern Manager said. Well, why have a sign saying "20% off of EVERYTHING" less than 10-feet from the counter?

It would appear that the retailers are still upto their old tricks...

Fine, not a problemmo one bit. I'll go without. Not a problem at all. Bye. BHS, M&S, they're all selling rubbish that no wants, and as for the clothes, ...I'm not in my 60's or a teenager discovering my dress sense.

When the BHS in our area had their '20% off everything' it included everything in the cafe too! Wonder if the management have descretion as to what 'everything' is?

I would have thought as its a national store, and a national 'sale' promotion that it should have applied to all the food in all the stores...

Do you remember that game called Lemmings?

No I don't, although I can guess it's general gist.

The fact is that M&S had 20% off everything, they weren't selling a load of old tat but things that people would normally pay full price for.
