  • Don't worry Izzywizzy my DD is still bf and 20 months. She weighs 2 stone. Bf doesn't make a child skinny or fat. I've had small and skinny children and tall and chubby. They're all healthy and happy and that's what's important.
  • does she bf constantly or is it just morning and bedtime ellsie snacks constantly and sometimes i feel like it is a form of control when she is at nursery the 2 days i work(even though i work there) she doesnt bother at all but when we are at home she is constantly pulling at me im starting to wear zip up tops so she cant access boobie her self
  • She "snacks" more when she's tired. Some days it's just morning and bedtime others it seems to be throughout the day. I do sometimes say no and then go for distraction with toys or food but sometimes I let her have it. It depends how I'm feeling, how tired she is and if it is just before tea.
  • thanks for that info it heps no end i guess i do the same just been a bit concerned cause ive had a terrible tummy bug and i took some pepto bismal to help ease it and it did say not reccomended whilst bf normally i wouldnt have touched but i really needed to feel better so ive tried to ration her plus shes had loose stools too now middle one has bug nightmare
  • I do as you do and try not to take anything where it says not to if bf, but in reality they are primarily talking about babies under 6 months. They don't make allowances for those following the WHO guidelines ;) .

    Hope you feel better soon.
  • Good luck with this
Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me

They are all different, and even a child that usually eats a lot will go through phases. If your overly worried talk to your HV but all children are different- try not to let it worry you. I would try n eat together- you could get a wipe clean table cloth, put it on your LR floor and pull his highchair in with you while you all eat together.

Remember that in our culture we all tend to overeat so a 'normal' childs portion will look tiny compared to what we are used to eating, they really need very little to sustain them, and some of them seem to live on fresh air. Your stomach is the size of your fist so look how small theirs is!

Also the more active they are the more they tend to eat, children are much better at portion control than we are as we all tend to eat too much really, so if they need the calories they will eat more- lot's of swimming, running in the woods, jumping in puddles :)
