Best account for £2,000 for 5 years?

Options
Would appreciate some advice. My son has been left £2,000 by my Mother who passed away earlier this year. According to the terms of the will it is to be held in trust for him until he reaches 21, he is 15 now. The solicitors dealing with the estate (all in trust so has been a bit of a nightmare), originally proposed to keep this money, but have now said that if I open an account for him with myself as trustee they will release the money. I am aware it is not a large amount but as it has to be tied up for some time I would like to try and get a decent interest rate. The solicitors have suggested NS & I bonds, does that sound a good idea to moneysavers on here?
