Investing in gold

It seems to me that gold is the best bet at the moment, and looks like it will be for some time. So how does one invest in or buy gold? I would be happy to acquire a few lumps, buy a safe and keep it out of the reach of greedy banks. Perhaps Ebay?:rotfl:
