When I have a bluescreen & subsequent reboot, scandisk is run and finds a longfile name error on drive C, it says unable to fix, run scandisk for windows to fix this problem.

I ran scandisk in windows but it found no errors. What's going on?

If it's running Ok, ignore it.

Space on C drive is extremely valuable for me. If I can free up some space being taken by this problem, I'd like to.

I doubt you'd get any space back at all. At most, an invalid LFN takes up a few bytes. 300GB hard drives are pennies - just buy a new one.

Why are you running Windoze 98? Unsuitable in this day and age and unsupported. I would recommend that you change to XP or a current Linux release asap to avoid any security issues. ;)
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

I did, with scandisk within windows, it found nothing. But scandisk on bootup always finds a LFN error.
