Childcare - most cost effective option?
Comments

hi all, thanks for the help and info. think i can safely rule out an au pair.
DDis currently 20 months, but will be 2 1/2 when I go back to uni. I think nursery would be the best option - it is right next to the middy school so I can drop her off before lectures and pick her up after.
as for placements... i guess until i actually get the timetable I wont know what to expect!
as a middy student, i am not legally allowed to do more than 40 hours a week (or maybe thats 45... i cant remember, one of the two).
her godparents (who both work from home) have said when I am on an early they can have her and drop her at nursery, and when on a late they can pick her up and take her home for tea til i get back - and have her overnight when on nights. I'm just aware that its a huge thing to offer and they may well regret it after the first year!
maybe we'll try it and see - if it doesnt work then i'll go for nursery and childminder.
to round up other questions - i will get childcare paid 85% of it. so costs wont be too much but obviously still a lot of a bursery!
i know it'll be hard work, makes me more determined as it'll (hopefully) make DD proud and show her that if you want something bad enough you can achieve it.0
