Help improving front door

  • I painted the inside of the glass on the front door (so same colour as door) stuck several layers of bubble wrap in the hole then put some board over the top. Once it was all painted on the inside it all looked fine. I never did get around to putting a new one on & neither did the new owners. It's still the same 15 years later. ;)
I think the change of letterbox might suggest a new door is easiest, or board it up & get one of those outdoor boxes. I'm not a great fan from the security aspect, but at least you'd have no draughts!

    Some interesting ideas.

Glass and bubble (lovely idea) don't work for two reasons. Firstly I want to increase privacy inside, secondly the width of each vertical glass panel is only 165mm.

Painting won't work as the door is an original 1930s door, wood stained for protection.

Think I need a new door.

wickes do new exterior doors from about 80 quid.

I wouldnt touch a wickes external door, unless you are prepared for it to fall to bits inside 6 months. They are what they are, cheap and rubbish. A joiner could make you a decent hardwood door for about £450, , new letterbox fitted and 5 lever deadlock. It would probably cost you £80-£100 to have it fitted to the existing frame.

It may seem expensive to begin with, but long term it would be cheap.
