Depends what he's moaning at - is it he doen't like sat-nav or just preferes another brand? I've got a older Navman, and there are a few things that I don't like about it - I personally prefer Garmin followed by Tom-Tom, however I've never used them for a long period. That said, I'm talking about old models this might be a diffrent beast. For me, everything has got a price and if this had Euro mapping, I'd buy it just to get newer map as mine keeps thinking I'm driving through fields in Italy because of all the new roads that have recently appeared.
If he just doesn't like sat-nav, then don't bother.0 -
LOL, I did not describe myself very well there did I!! He has an older one that is 2 years old that is not very good - so I am told... endlessly. Apparently he put a postcode in the other day and by the time he arrived at his destination it had only just found it on the mapping (or something like that, I glazed over after the first 5 minutes of his moaning). But I wondered if this was a newer version and what it was like.
To be honest I think it' more of 'I wanna new one'. I've seen the TTXL on BC for £125 and I thought I might get him one for Xmas. I do not want to risk getting him another carp Navman else I'll never heard the end of him moaning about the 'cheap sh*t we always buy'. LOL!!0 -

I've got a Navman ICN 550 if that helps. I think I know what he means - sometimes it drives me up the wall and usually it's a godsend. Mine took nearly 1 hour to lock onto satellites once!!
A few weeks ago I took it to Italy and it locked on within about 1 minute, depite it previously being used in the UK.
There is one place I go to and depending on which lane you take to approach the area, it may take you into the sainsbury's goods yard which is next to the place I'm going to, but the turning before !!!
I could go on..... Overall though, I think it's great and I wouldn't do with out it - sadly it's cheaper to upgrade than buy new maps.0 -
The S50 is fine at finding post codes and it's quick at recalculating routes if you don't take the unit's suggested exit etc.

you do it yourself, sainsburys staff cant do it as they're not qualified0 -
Bit O/T but do NOT stick it onto the windscreen or the dash.
Sat navs are now at the top of car breakin reasons; the scum look for either the 'cradle/holder itself' stuck on the dash/window, but now that many people know this and remove the holder after use, the scum are looking for the tell-tale 'suction ring' marks on the screen or dash.
or you just wipe the windscreen where the sat navs suction has been0 -
Hi Poppy, sorry to be thick, but what's a 'DS' case? Willl it do for the S30 (being smaller) as well as the S50?
It's a Nintendo DS case - a handheld games console like the Sony PSP - sorry more initials.you do it yourself, sainsburys staff cant do it as they're not qualified
These aren't built in - you only need to attach the sucker to a window - personally I use the front quaterlight that many cars have or don't even attach it and just use the voice instructions as I can't stand them in the middle of the screen.0 -

Not too sure about the gift - I was going to get one for my daughter for passing her test but I'm a bit worried it might be a bit of a distraction for a new driver.0 -

You would have more room so may get the charger in the case too. The S50 being widescreen just fits in.
