car service advice

I need a volkswagon service and use of a curtesy car. I have been quoted £380 and waiting a week for curtesy car from a volkswagon garage. Is this average price or expensive? Is it better to go to a specialist garage or an ordinary garage? I live in the Surrey area any advice?
thanks

A bargain is something you don't need at a price you can't resist :j

Is this for a major or minor service?
It's been a long time since I took my car to be serviced, usually costs me £60 for a minor one (DIY).:whistle:0 -
Depends upon which service it's for - major or interim. But in general you'll pay a lot more at a franchised dealer. You're much better to find a reputable ( i.e. word of mouth from friends ) local independant garage, you'll save a packet. And the law was recently changed so that using a non-main-dealer doesn't invalidate the warranty. You're unlikely to get a courtesy car from an independant ( though you may be lucky ), but work out how much you'll save and see if you can live without it for the few hours it'll take to do the service.0

Sadly for the OP, we are north of the Thames.
OP - can't say if that is a good price or not - but even for a 'major' service it seems high though, as VW parts are very reasonable.Genie

Have you compared quotes from different VW dealerships? Different dealers will quote you different price for the same service. I recently had first service for my VW and 4 different dealers gave me very different quote for exactly the same work. To give you an idea the cheapest quote was less than 45% compared to the most expensive quote.0 -
