Hi,
Just going to order some US $ for next April. I am going to buy the future price and have them delivered in April at $1.53 / 1 pound but was wondering whether to get all cash or a combo with t/cheques. The thing is I cannot remember if you get charged to change the cheques into cash over there or if it is free. Can anyone tell me please asap as I want to get it ordered soon.
cheers

In the US, you can spend travellers cheques like cash, shops/restaurants will just give you the change. so they're just as good as cash really.
Might be an idea to have some low denomination cash notes for when you arrive though.Retired in 2015.

Was only thinking of splitting the money 50/50 for security reasons really. Don`t like the idea of traveling with $4500 on me!
I remember in Canada having a fee to pay each time I changed at a bank. Was planning on loading my N/Wide account up but need to get the currency now before it falls any more so cannot do it that way really and will have to take cash and/or t-chqs.0 -
Hi didnt know you could order money in advance, can you tell me how this works please. Where do you do this and do you pay when you order or when you get it. Thanks in advance.0

whenever ive had travelers cheques theyve been a complete pain away from mega toursity places
you'l need to carry i.d and expect the cashier to look at you like an alien and call up the boss to ask if they take em
no charge for using em
just get the cash imo0 -
when i was in new york and orlando, i had no problem with shops/resturants etc taking them as cash, as long as we had our pasport with us, so did not have to change them (just make sure you get usd travellers cheques)
infact it was a lot easier to use the travellers cheques there than most other places i have beenMFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -
The only trouble with ordering in advance ,is they have your money and you have no protection0
