Getting your bank to phone you

Options
One day I was looking on the halifax website and it said they would call you back on the open a new account page

I wondered if it would work for doing normal telephone banking on existing accounts (and hence get them to pay the cost of the call)

Tried it and it worked seems they just add you to the normal queue - the link is https://www.halifax.co.uk/contactus/wecancallyou.asp if anyone wants to use it

I tried looking on the HSBC website but couldn't find anything similar - do HSBC have a similar thing?

which other banks work like this?

Yes, I have done this with Halifax too. With me it went through to New Accounts, so they couldn't do existing telephone banking, but they just transferred me through. It's a brilliant system, as when you ask them to phone you 'Now', it really does mean the instant you click the button!

But I don't know of anywhere else that has this.

I just use a geographic number from Saynoto0870 and use my mobile's free minutes

If you use the credit card callback it sends you to new accounts and an automated legal message starts....

But if you use the savings/current ac one it doesn't and they will transfer you to the credit card people

With HSBC, when you are in your account on the internet banking, just send them a message and you can just ask them to call you.

whereas this used to put you through to the normal queue - I tried it recently and now it sends you directly to the new accounts department - first time they said they would put me through to the correct department - and then the line cut off....

second time said they couldn't help me and told me to call the telephone banking number....

So maybe Halifax only want this to be used for where they can make a sale now
