Moving House - take existing supplier with me or switch afterwards
Options
Afternoon all.
I'm going to be moving house in the next month or so all going well and was wondering what's best for electricity and gas supply.
I switched to Powergen Energy online a year or so ago and have been happy with them.
The house we are buying is not with Powergen at the moment.
When you have moved house before who has taken their existing supplier with them??
I was wondering if I should tell Powergen that I'm not having a house or something similar and so don't want them to take over at the new house then switch to them and get cashback (again from uSwitch etc) after a month or so of being in the new place.
Has anyone done this??
I am assuming powergen will come out top in the next round of comparisons I do.
Cheers
Ben

You only have to tell Powergen that your moving away so that they stop charging on the moving date and send you a closing bill. Powergen won't take on supply to your new house unless you ask them to.
As to best supplier, there've been a lot of posts recently about switching, go through the switching sites and double check their recommendations on the suppliers websites.Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0 -
You have to inform the current supplier of your new address that you are moving in, regardless of if you wish to remain with them.
Your chosen supplier will then need to take over the supply, typically around 28 days later.0 -

I'm also interested in this.
But how do you find out who the current supplier is?0 -
You can find out your current gas supplier by calling the Transco M Number enquiry line on 0870 6081524.
For your electricity, you need to speak to your host region's MPAS number, if you let me know which region you are in, I can get the number for you.0 -
