If you are clever (like I said), you should be able to live comfortably for approx £50 a month. You won't have any gas charges, so for a single person it should work out cost effective.
:T
Well in that case I must be as thick as a plank.:smileyheaMagenta0 -
I spent a couple of hours on the phone yesterday to British Gas and they are now lowering my monthly cost to £89 pcm (from £94)....:smileyheaMagenta0

I think, based on my own experience and that of others who have used storage heaters, that your situation is quite typical. All electric is expensive.
I accept that some people have no choice - my brother lives in a village where there is no gas and had the choice of oil, electric and calor gas only. But if you're looking for somewhere to rent or buy, availability of gas should be a consideration. Not the only one - if it's going to cost more in rent/travel expenses etc to live somewhere with gas, it may not be the most cost-effective option. But, all things being equal, and given that this site is about saving money, all electric is to be avoided if you have that option.0 -
I'm all electric, 1 bed flat, and it costs me around £50 a month.
I never put the immersion heater on all day.
Have found 35 minutes for a bath, 20 for a shower, 10 just to keep water warm.
Average...PC on for 10-12 hours a day...TV 5-6 hours...
1 fridge, 2 freezers
Electric usage : 12-14 units a day
If you think something is wrong with your electric, a good test is to take a meter reading just before you go to bed at night.
Before doing that, switch everything off apart (obviously) than fridge/freezer.
Check meter when you get up in the morning.
Your meter should only go up by 1-3 unitsIf it's not a bargain, it's not worth buying0 -

I'm amazed! So far over the last 7 days my electricity consumption is averaging 44 units! most of those are during E7 hours, I'm using less than 9 units during the day.
i have switched off the immersion completely now- seemd stupid to heat up such a large tank for one person when all I use hot water for is washing up.
Can't believ how much electricity it takes to charge up these bloody storage heaters! Its going to cost a fortune and average room temperature in the house is probably 18-19c.
Lots of thermals are being worn!0 -

Do you really feel 44 units a day in late Nov for all electricity, heating and lighting is amazing?
How much does that come to 35 units @5p and 9 @12p??? - less than £3?
The UK average for 365 days, even for those with gas which is much cheaper than electricity, is far higher than £3.
You are all electric, which means far higher prices than the UK average, and we are talking about a period in when heating costs are very high.
To be quite honest I think only 35/9kWhs in late Nov is excellent.0 -

I think (but may have misunderstood) that spanner was amazed that stamford was only using 12-14kwh in an all-electric flat.0 -

thats exactly what I meant! Having never paid for utilities on my own before, I wasn't sure what I should be using, what was reasonable etc. and whether I was being overly extravagant in the quest to stay warm! however I realise that during the summer my electricity consumption will be ALOT lower so average over a year bills will hopefully not be too bad...0 -

But there is no mention of heating this one bedroom flat! Obviously no storage heaters on every night. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
As I have found to my detriment, storage heaters are a bad thing all round. They cost a fortune to run and they seem to run out of heat at some point in the evening. Also if you get home and you are really cold you can't get immediate heat say with gas, it takes all night for them to heat up!!:smileyheaMagenta0
