Actually, having had a pre-payment meter in one of my old homes, you do have to call Transco (or whoever it is now) to fix this. I was directed to them by my energy supplier when it happend, and was told to use the emergency number.
Some suppliers are b******s for this - the emergency engineers do NOT attend etm error msgs - that has to be organised for you by your gas supplier with whom ever they have the contract with to carry out the work beit National Grid Metering (these are not emergency call outs so do not use the emergency number) United Utilies or other.
For the record my main role is an emergency agent for national grid so I am one of the people who would answer your call on the emergency numberI am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -
That safety advise is great. Unfortunately the call handlers at the emergency call centre take little notice of whether the customer has actually understood the advice as they are reading from a script. It makes it very easy to find a property at night as its always the one with all the doors and windows wide open with all the lights turned off as the customer thinks they have been told to turn everything off!
we very clearly state on all emergency calls at least once do not turn any electrical switchs on or off and at end of call re-state it saying do not turn any electrical appliances or switchs on or off....................not quite sure why some cannot understand that and then ask does that mean the tv too..............doh!!!!!.....I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -

The rest of the safety messages (besides leaving electrical appliances alone) was no smoking or striking any matches, open doors/windows to ventilate the property and allow immediate access to the engineer (including not using electrically operated doors).

I'd also ask that if you are going to phone the National Gas Emergency Service that you do so when you first notice the problem. If the carbon monoxide alarm starts to beep at lunchtime, don't wait until 2am to pick up the phone! That is one sure-fire way to have you're installation "made safe"!
also leave the alarm where it is, make sure you are not standing directly beneath it saying can you hear it to the poor person wearing a head set on the other end now getting deafened and please please do not take it around to another house when it starts beeping or going off as we will also raise a job and require access to that property too.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -
finally if you have an electrical emergency do not call the gas emergency number then get annoyed with the agent because then cannot help you.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0
