Asda opticians pricing revelation

I noticed an opticians section in an Asda superstore yesterday. All the staff are actually employed by Asda. Their pricing seems like it could persuade me to come back to the High Street after previously buying contact lens over the Internet.

Boots and several other opticians price for a contact lens eye test is £25. D&A quoted even more at £30. But Asda charge only £15. Much better.

I presently buy monthy disposable soft contact lens over the Internet at about £35 for 6 months supply. Boots and several other opticians would be around double that price and demand that you sign up for direct debit commitments, etc.

Asda have quoted the same price as my Internet source for monthly contact lens, which seems far more reasonable (and still plenty of profit left for them, no doubt).

I should be grateful if other members could check this out and confirm or update these early observations.

Regards
George

Yep, I had my eye tested in my local Asda last month.

They were only charging £10 for an eye test! Not sure if it was just a promotion?

I can't confirm the prices for contact lenses but I remember being plesantly suprised.

I had glasses from them 2 years ago and (touch wood) I haven't had any problems with them at all.

I have ordered a new pair of glasses from my new prescription and the price is the same as 2 years ago. £42 for frames and lenses with anti- glare. Much better than the £100 + I used to pay >:(

try the Asda website, enter your postcode etc. and on "Find your local store" in the descriptions it will say which stores have an optician

I had a quick look last night and the frames i liked were priced at £38 for the frames, if you have to add on lenses and coatings on top i think i'd be better of going to specsavers, paying £100 and getting a pair free. Any idea how much they charge for high prescription super thin lenses with a hard coat?

I've been using Asda opticians for my contact lenses for three years or so. It's prolly mentioned in the Contact Lens debate on another thread

if these are the prices for asdas ciba vision dailies then they are more expensive than specsavers!!.....im with specsavers direct...get mine delivered but also includes after care, checkups (and i think eye test every year too)...costs 25/month...or 24/month if you dont want aftercare.

    Hi,

the prices do include aftercare appointments (check ups) but not sightest fee which is £10 + one off c/l assessment fee of £15

The plus side with Asda opticians is that you do not have to fill out a D/D mandate/form as you buy the lenses as and when you need them, as sometimes you can find that you have far more lenses then you actually need when you are on a monthly scheme :)
