I hope someone on this board can help me with a genuinly urgent problem:
My girlfriend has moved over from Ireland recently to work for the NHS. On Saturday last week we visited a range of banks for her to open an account so she can have her wages paid in.
After going with the Abbey National and applying she was told they would do a credit search which came back rejected today after being 'reffered'. Despite the fact she does not want any credit facilities and holds an Irish Mastercard she now has no way of getting paid.
Now we understand what ID is required to open an account (one reason for choosing abbey is they accepted what ID she had with her at the time) can anyone reccomend a High St bank that will offer a very basic account with no credit facility for an EU citizen.
At the moment she can't get paid and this is a real worry for both of us, any help greatly appreciated.
Matt
ps her employer is paying her accommodation for 6 months hence not sorting this sooner, and i'm english.

I believe all the high street banks do a 'basic' bank account which lets you have banking facilities without any credit facilities. Try calling a few of your local branches and explain what you want.
Alternatively - can you open a joint account?0
