Electricity: changing from prepayment meter?
Options
Does anyone have any recommendations for changing from an electricity prepayment meter to save money? I am with British Gas and use Economy 7 at night.
I checked on USwitch regarding better deals by getting a standard meter but the results were inconclusive as it seems I have to stay with BG initially.
Doea anyone have any recommendations please?

Thanks Enigmaman for posting this question, I was going to ask the same thing.
Can I ask a daft question?
Can I change from my current provider on a prepayment meter to a different provider and have a standard meter and pay by Direct debit without major hassle?
Cheers

If your current supplier will do it free of charge for you, have them do it and then change companies.
Some suppliers charge for changing the meter in the forst 12 months, although the salesmen often forget this.....0 -
Im trying to change mine over from pre-payment meter.
BG told me that they would first do a credit check on me, if that came back ok, then no problem they would change it, if not then i have to pay a deposit first.
Main problem i ahve now is that i found out by ringing them that the accounts are in my ex-flatmates name and she moved out 4 years ago! Never realised as i dont get bills etc and every time i've called they have been happy enough to speak to me.
Now have to send them all my proof in that i live here, get her name off, mine put on, then apply to have the meter taken out.Lightbulb moment Dec 2005 - debt £23700
