I got told tonight, when I went on the train, that they weren't supposed to let me on in my electric wheelchair (they thought it was a scooter).

If they're going to ban scooters they need to know the difference between a scooter and an electric wheelchair.

The gentleman was lovely though, he said that he was going to let me on anyway and appologised that he thought I had a scooter.
If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!
  • I did write a reply on this general question. I was, or at least I was shown to be 'logged in' when I hit post .. but I was asked to do so and having done so returned to a blank white rectangle. My post, which I had spent some time writing, evaporated.

If I am logged in why am I not warned that I am about to be kicked off ?

Why can I often browse the forum for over an hour without being kicked off, yet the moment I reply in a thread ... I get kicked off, even tough I'm clearly shown as being logged in ? Those of us who do not type so well or as fast deserve a reasonable adjustment here.

  • Hi,

The difference between a scooter and an electric wheelchair. is the type of batteries that have in them and how likely they are to catch on fire. That why you are fly with a electirc wheelchair and not a scooter, which is the best all to catch bus driver out. IF I Can Fly with my Chair why Can I not get on your Bus ?

Some useful link about this are:

    - This a link of the scooter which stage coach will let on to their buses

    hope this help

    Re babies,

i realise that babies can't walk but they are much easier to carry than a full grown disabled person. Year ago you didn't have wheelchair areas to park your prams and mums still managed fine. Folding buggies can be as cheap as a £10, wheelchairs can cost thousands. Please don't compare a healthy baby with a disabled adult. And before I get called a hypocrite my nieces buggy (above) is a huge monster of a thing issued by the NHS to support her back until she's old enough to propel a wheelchair.
  • I must admit that I do use the space for my sons buggy. BUT I would always fold the pushchair if a wheelchair needed the space.

I think that there is nothing wrong with pushchairs occupying these spaces if there is not a wheelchair needing it.

Our local buses also have a sign saying that buggies can occupy this space on the condition that they give it up if a wheelchair needs to get on.

They also have spaces which asks you to give up for elderly / disabled people. I try to do this as much as possible but when I am having a bad day (and by bad I mean painful and trouble walking) I sometimes do have to use them. Some old ladies have been quite rude when I have not moved for them (even though there were elderly seats opposite me)!! I think it is bad attitudes in general from all ages regarding disabled people that causes the problems.

I do think that not making a pushchair move for a wheelchair is blatant discrimination.

Yes .. All this does is have my username stored in a 'cookie'. I am presently shown as being logged in while I type this, but it is only a quick reply. If it wer e several paragraphs I would have been kicked off and lost the reply.
